The Sage TXL series is Sage’s ultra-light fly rod series, and is designed specifically for fishing in small creeks and streams. TXL actually stands for Trout Extra Light, and the Sage’s TXL series is unique as no other fly rod manufacturer produces a ultra-light fly rod series. These smooth casting rods are designed for tight fishing conditions where longer casts are not required, but where accuracy and precise control of the line and fly are essential. These rods are ideal for casting small to medium flies and protecting thin tippets.
The Sage TXL series is the second rod series in the Sage lineup to incorporate the use of Sage’s Generation 5 Graphite Technology. The use of this technology results in a lightweight rod that is capable of delivering very fast line speeds when casting, but also provides a continuous flex throughout the length of the rod for smoother casts. The casting action of the fly rods in the Sage TXL series is medium fast. There are ten ultra-light models available in the Sage TXL series, ranging from a 000 weight to a 4 weight. The rods in the TCX series come in three lengths, 6′3″, 7′0″ or 7′10″. The shorter lengths make these fly rods great for fly fishing in tight situations and on small bodies of water. These rods all come in three sections.
Note: A 000 weight rod is lighter than a 00 weight rod. A 00 weight rod is lighter than a 0 weight rod. A 0 weight rod is lighter than a 1 weight rod. The Sage TXL 000 weight rod is the lightest fly rod ever made.
The fly rods in the Sage TXL series are all gorgeously appointed, and are finished in a pleasing transparent gold color. These rods utilize a nickel-silver uplocking reel seat with a Vera Wood insert, and have a six inch cigar style handle. Everything about these rods is scaled down, including the length of the grip, the length of the seat, and the weight of the finely crafted stripping and snake guides – this results in some of the lightest fly rods available today, with the 000 weight rod weighing 1 7/8 ounces, and the 4 weight rod weighing 2 3/8 ounces. The table below gives a summary of the rods available in the Sage TXL series.

These fly rods are very impressive. For such an amazingly light fly rod to have the amount of strength, smoothness and sensitivity to “line feel” that the TXL has is truly remarkable – this is due mainly to Sage’s new G5 graphite technology. Sage has managed to produce the lightest fly fishing rods available today without having to sacrifice feel, control or rod strength. So, if small flies, light tippets and delicate presentations are your game, the Sage TXL is your fly rod!
Every Sage rod is covered by Sage’s lifetime, original owner warranty. Regardless of cause of damage, Sage will repair or replace the Sage rod while it is still owned by the original owner.
